On Thursday 8 May, Grand Café Noordkade officially opened its doors in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht. The new concept by hospitality entrepreneur Bjorn van Dijl, together with Maikel Terlouw and Wilco Zwier, offers exactly what the name promises: an atmospheric grand café where everyone feels welcome. With a nod to French cuisine, a warm interior and a classic menu without fuss, Noordkade will be the place to come together, enjoy and celebrate life.
Grand Café Noordkade responds to the need for accessible catering where quality and affordability come together. Van Dijl, known from Grand Café Willaerts in Papendrecht, among others, wants to 'go back to basics' with Noordkade. No trends or unnecessary liflafjes, but a unique mix of grand café dishes and classic bistro favourites. Think satay and sandwiches, but also home-made vol-au-vent, escargots, steak tartare and croque monsieur. Everything is freshly prepared, with attention and love for the job.
"At other establishments, we sometimes allowed ourselves to be led a little too much by what was 'in'," van Dijl says. "At Noordkade, we go back to what hospitality is all about for me: hospitality, recognisable flavours and a place where everyone feels at home."
The stylish interior was created by Ferry Tabeling (Heineken Interieur Design), Jeroen Smeele (Smeele Design) and Natascha Lansbergen. Wooden walls and room dividers provide warmth and atmosphere, while copper accents and marble details give the establishment a sophisticated look. The result: a bright, elegant space where luxury and accessibility go hand in hand.
With 150 seats inside and another 150 on the spacious terrace, Grand Café Noordkade is perfect for intimate moments as well as larger gatherings. Compound menus are available especially for groups of 10 people or more, preventing choice stress and ensuring fast, joined-up service.
Grand Café Noordkade is open daily for coffee, lunch, drinks and dinner. The café caters to a wide audience - from business visitors to families and groups of friends. The entrepreneurs have deliberately chosen pricing that makes the restaurant accessible without compromising on the quality of dishes and service. This combination of accessibility and quality matches the growing demand for affordable catering with character.
Hospitality entrepreneur Bjorn van Dijl is the driving force behind the Willaerts Group, which includes Restaurant Kita, Le Barrage, Grand Café Willaerts, Il Marcato and now Grand Café Noordkade. All special hospitality businesses that make a difference in Randstad municipalities.
A hallmark of the group is its focus on staff development. The company structurally invests in training and working atmosphere, which Van Dijl says contributes to the consistent quality of service. The hospitality entrepreneur sees a direct link between employee satisfaction and guest appreciation, a vision that forms the basis for all branches under the Willaerts umbrella.
