Biggest renovation since opening completed in January 2025
One year and nine months it takes. With might and main, the complete metamorphosis of the 557-room DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station is being worked on without closing its doors for a day. The city of Amsterdam is woven like a thread through the hotel and is reflected in the interior in various ways.
The opening of rooftop bar LuminAir on the top floor and coffee bar LOT61 on the ground floor, and the refurbishment of all 557 rooms kicked off the monster project. LuminAir has now made a name for itself as one of the best cocktail bars in the Netherlands, LOT61 is a popular spot for Amsterdam residents and tourists alike, and the rooms have been given a warm feel through the use of terracotta and pastel colours. Interior design firm King Kongs took inspiration from the Amsterdam School and reflected this in various ways. Nice detail: one of the rooms has been renamed the LuminAir Suite. This copy of the bar, including the signature cloud installations and wallpaper, creates a seamless transition from bar to room.
The current lobby has now been completely revamped by design studio WeWantMore. The long and high desk will be replaced by separate compartments, giving the hotel entrance a more open and playful look. There will be a separate desk for all restaurants and bars where coats will be accepted and, for a quick snack, guests will be able to visit the grab & go shop of Hilton partner Wundermart. The lobby will also have a warm feel and hint at the capital through the St Andrew's Cross-shaped lamps on the ceiling.
Work is currently underway to further renovate the ground floor. The nature-inspired bar and dining concept WE ARE EDN will replace and complement the current offering from the end of October. WE ARE EDN is a scalable brand developed by Hilton's in-house creative f&b studio StiR Creative and will be the first to open its doors at DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station. The atmosphere will be homely, with lots of use of plants and an international menu complemented by local favourites. WE ARE EDN is approachable hospitality with an open and attractive look that should appeal to the two million passers-by a year to come for lunch, dinner or drinks.

DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station is undergoing the biggest renovation since its existence. A great opportunity to make it even more sustainable. Intensive efforts are therefore being made to use the latest technologies and other contrivances, such as intelligent motion sensors for light and climate, window films, the transition to 100 per cent LED lighting and high-tech installations in the kitchen. Ultimately, the initiatives should ensure that the hotel uses 20 to 30 per cent less energy. Investments are also being made in staff welfare. For instance, the back of house will be renovated to include new changing rooms, showers and canteen.
The metamorphosis of DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station is expected to be completed in January 2025. For more information on the hotel, visit www.hilton.com/nl/hotels/amscsdi-doubletree-amsterdam-centraal-station.
