The first Wine Festival of the Low Countries is coming! On Sunday 1 September, some 30 Dutch and Belgian winemakers will be tasting their best wines. The festival lasts from 13:00 to 18:00 and takes place on the beautiful Heerlijkheid Mariënwaerdt estate in Beesd. This is the place for a vibrant afternoon of wine tasting.
That Belgian and Dutch wines are becoming increasingly popular is no secret. Thanks in part to the growing quality and increasing expertise of winemakers, these wines have developed enormously. High time, therefore, for their own annual festival.
White wines, red wines, rosés, sparkling wines... you will find them all at the Wine Festival of the Low Countries. Some 30 Belgian and Dutch vintners have already confirmed their participation (see attachment). With that, it promises to be a deliciously diverse wine day. Besides the various wines, there will also be stands with tasty drinks boards and other snacks. Visitors will also have the chance to win a wine cooler, made available by Coolvaria.
During the day, there will be several speed-masterclasses from experts such as Vicky Corbeels. In a short time, learn the ins & outs about wines from cool climates, the new and classic grape varieties and the different PDOs in the Netherlands and Belgium. A unique opportunity to increase your wine knowledge in no time. Sign up for your favourite session when ordering your tickets or during the festival.
The festival ends with the presentation of the honorary awards of the Wine Awards of the Low Countries as well as the KIESKURK public awards. This is your chance to put your favourite Dutch or Belgian wine in the spotlight. The presentation and presentation are in the hands of wine writer and registered wine expert Janna Rijpma.
The Wine Festival of the Low Countries is co-sponsored by KIESKURK - Amorim Cork. This family-run company specialises in all parts of the cork product. Together with the Portuguese Amorim Cork, they produce TCA-free natural corks and have been focusing on the best CO2 balance of natural cork for decades. Especially for the festival, they designed the audience awards. "This festival is a great initiative with an emphasis on high quality and a beautiful natural product. Values that we also value highly. We are looking forward to a multi-year cooperation," said Rob Kies of KIESKURK - Amorim Cork.
The Wine Festival of the Low Countries is an initiative of Stichting Wijninstituut Nederland (WIN). For 20 years, WIN has organised the Wine Festival of the Low Countries, where wines are judged at the Weinbauamt in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. Last year, a record number of 35 wines were awarded gold medals. In total, around 250 Belgian and Dutch wines are submitted to the judging every year. The WIN also organises the Vineyard Open Days in the Netherlands. These will take place this year on 14 and 15 September.
Janna Rijpma and Manon de Boer have been recruited by WIN to strengthen the organisation. Janna, known for the successful wine festival Night of Wine, and Manon, spokesperson for the VNWP, are committed to a successful first edition. The festival also has several ambassadors from the first hour: Winelife Magazine, trade magazine Wine & Vineyard and wine supplier Nederlandse Streekwijnen.
