Leonardo Hotels strengthens Amsterdam leadership with three appointments and renovation plans

Last year, Leonardo Hotels Group acquired 12 hotels in the Netherlands from Zien Group, including five major hotels in Amsterdam. With the recent expansion of the hotel portfolio in the capital,Leonardo Hotels is proud to announce today three appointments: Nicole Willems has been appointed Cluster Operations Manager Amsterdam, Eloy Aerssens is the new General Manager of Leonardo Boutique Hotel The Lancaster and Sam Pronk takes up the position of Hotel Manager of the Jan Luyken Amsterdam.

Nicole Willems - Cluster Operations Manager Amsterdam

Nicole Willems, who has already started on 1 March 2025, will take charge of the day-to-day operations of the Amsterdam hotels. With an impressive portfolio of now 11 hotels in the Amsterdam region, Willems’ role is crucial for creating synergy and establishing a strong market position. Willems graduated from the Hogere Hotelschool Maastricht and held various commercial and management positions at Accor and NH Hotel Group, among others, for many years. Her move into operations as General Manager of Designhotel Maastricht in 2021 was a conscious choice: “It still always kept itching to be involved with your guests and team yourself.”

About her new role, Willems says: “After the merger of Eden Hotels with the Leonardo Hotel Group in summer 2024, the move to Cluster Operations Manager felt very natural. We now have 11 beautiful hotels in the city, from large to small and from city centre to the ring road, each with its own charm and appeal. With the rebranding of the former Zien Group hotels and the preparation of some wonderful renovations, I look forward to creating the synergy between these unique hotels so that no one can ignore Leonardo Hotels anymore.”

Eloy Aerssens - General Manager Leonardo Boutique Hotel The Lancaster Amsterdam

Since July 2025, Eloy Aerssens has been the new general manager of the newly rebranded Leonardo Boutique Hotel The Lancaster Amsterdam. Aerssens will lead an ambitious renovation that includes the hotel's common areas and some 75% of rooms, with a view to completion in July 2026. The hotel is also opening a wine bar that is set to become a new attractive hotspot for guests and locals alike.

With Aerssens at the helm, the hotel is preparing for a new era. His focus is on the successful transformation of the historic property into a full-fledged member of the Leonardo Boutique collection, preserving the property's unique Amsterdam charm, paying extra attention to its location next to Artis Zoo and focusing on personal connection. In the process, a wine bar will open in the hotel, appealing both to guests and local residents.

Sam Pronk - Hotel manager Jan Luyken Hotel Amsterdam

Also in July 2025, Sam Pronk has been appointed hotel manager of the Jan Luyken Hotel Amsterdam, which has been part of the Leonardo Hotel Group since March. Pronk is a familiar face within the group; she started her career as Front Office Supervisor at the Leonardo Hotel location in Utrecht. Her appointment at the Jan Luyken, a hotel known for its elegant and intimate atmosphere in Amsterdam's Museum Quarter, underlines the growth opportunities Leonardo Hotels offers to talent from its own pool.
