The former Vodafone-Ziggo office on the Maas, next to the Kennedy Bridge in Maastricht, is being given a new purpose. Smeets Bouw is building a luxury hotel here on behalf of Van der Valk Exclusief, with 110 rooms, three function rooms, a restaurant with 220 seats, a wellness and fitness area, and a cosy bar. It is a remarkable transformation, giving the building a completely new function.
With its distinctive façades and excellent thermal and acoustic properties, the existing building provides a solid foundation for the new hotel. Under the direction of architect Paul Teunissen, it quickly became clear that the building was ideally suited for repurposing. The layout of the floors and the high ceilings fit in well with the plans for the hotel.
The hotel will have 110 spacious rooms spread over five floors. On the Meuse side, a conservatory with 200 seats will be added, where guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner with a view of the harbour. For relaxation and exercise, there will be a speakeasy bar, a terrace on the Meuse and a wellness and fitness room on the roof.
This repurposing not only breathes new life into a vacant office building, but also creates a beautiful new hotspot on the Meuse.
