DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station completes major renovation

DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station completes major refurbishment

DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station has completed the biggest renovation in its history after almost two years. With this sweeping transformation, the hotel has not only been renewed, but has become a destination in itself where good food, the best cocktails and fresh coffee take centre stage. The new catering facilities, modern lobby, comfortable rooms and sustainable innovations highlight the hotel's versatility. The city of Amsterdam is woven through the hotel like a thread and is reflected in the interior in various ways.

Emma Banks, vice president F&D Strategy & Development EMEA at Hilton, said: 'All the f&b locations at DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station have been carefully created and revolve around local craftsmanship and innovation. So that we can offer real experiences to our guests. From the award-winning rooftop bar LuminAir and the creativity of LOT61, to the urban dynamism of WE ARE EDN, each location represents our commitment to quality. This way, we offer something special not only to our hotel guests, but to all of Amsterdam.'

LuminAir: an award-winning rooftop experience

Designed by King Kongs, rooftop bar LuminAir has become one of the most prominent cocktail bars in the Netherlands. Recently awarded an Entree Award for Best New Cocktailbar 2024, LuminAir is not only committed to an innovative ON AIR cocktail menu in collaboration with artist Marit Harte, but also to a creative programme that includes an Afternoon Tea in the Clouds, LuMini Hour, collaborations with local artists and brands and an extensive lunch. In addition, the panoramic view of Amsterdam remains a crowd-pleaser.

LOT61: artisanal and local coffee

LOT61 serves artisan coffee in their flagship store on the ground floor of the hotel. The baristas use carefully selected and quality beans with which they make perfect espressos, flat whites and filter coffee. The relaxed atmosphere and focus on local craftsmanship attract tourists and Amsterdam residents alike. LOT61 and LuminAir work together and both have some delicious coffee cocktails on the menu. The coffee shop is designed by Smörgåsbord.

WE ARE EDN Restaurant: international menu with local flavours

WE ARE EDN, pronounced 'eden', is a concept by StiR Creative Collective, Hilton's creative consultancy, and opened its first location at DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station. The atmosphere in the restaurant is homely, with much inspiration drawn from nature and the international menu complemented by local favourites. WE ARE EDN Restaurant therefore collaborates with some fine suppliers such as De Pastafabriek from Haarlem, Nice to Meat from Almere and Broodheeren from Raamsdonkveer. The interior is carefully composed with custom-made furniture by De Compagnie and art by Jordy van den Nieuwendijk and Raquel Rodrigo, with the Netherlands as the central theme.

WE ARE EDN Bar: craft and conviviality

Like the restaurant, WE ARE EDN Bar was designed by We Want More. They have made it a homely bar where guests can have a quiet drink, play (board) games and meet each other in an approachable way. Surrounded by Dutch-inspired art by Evan Powell, Alexandra Verkerk and Simon Moore, among others. A variety of house and speciality beers flow from the extensive tap. Consider the OPA, or Oosterdok Pale Ale. Specially brewed for Doubletree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station. A sustainable beer in homage to the rich maritime history of Amsterdam and the Oosterdok Island. Furthermore, they serve artisanal and organic limoncello and orancello by Limoncello Club from Amsterdam from personalised bottles specially designed for WE ARE EDN. By the way, the drinks menu also features plenty of options without or low in alcohol. For instance, the bar collaborates with the Amsterdam Frisdrank Fabriek for their craft sodas. All drinks served in the bar are of course also available in WE ARE EDN Restaurant.

Modern lobby

The lobby welcomes guests with a playful and warm feel. The traditional reception desk has been replaced by separate desks which makes interaction with guests more personal, and the various crosses on the windows and ceiling hint at Amsterdam's St Andrew's Crosses. For guests who want to get something quick for the road, there is the grab-and-go The Market by Hilton partner Wundermart. Eye-catching is the colourful composition "Summer Heather" by Simone Post. This artwork, measuring 355 by 400 cm, is handmade from recycled textiles, among other materials, and depicts a wildflower field. It highlights both the hotel's sustainability and artistic innovation.

Lindy Veitenheimer, art advisor at DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station, said: 'We worked with the hotel and We Want More to see how we could bring a creative experience to guests that is vibrant, sustainable and modern, created by local artists, in the most brand loyal way possible. The result is a series of works all revolving around the Netherlands, created with recycled materials.'

Amsterdam rooms

Completely renovated by King Kongs, the 557 rooms and corridors at DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station combine functionality with an aesthetic nod to the Amsterdam School. The rooms exude warmth through the use of terracotta tones and natural materials. The corridors feature eight works by Anna's Illustrations, inspired by several iconic Amsterdam School buildings.

Sustainability and investment in employees

With an investment of EUR 2.5 million, DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station is also firmly committed to sustainability and well-being. The hotel uses technologies such as intelligent motion sensors, energy-efficient LED lighting, window films and high-tech installations in the kitchen, resulting in energy savings of 20 to 30 per cent. At the same time, back-of-house facilities have been completely revamped, including changing rooms, showers and canteen, to improve employee well-being.

Floris Licht, general manager of DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station: 'The renovation has transformed DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station into more than just a hotel, it is now truly a destination in itself with four beautiful venues that are an absolute asset to the city. It is the result of two years of hard work. We overcame major logistical challenges to completely renovate the largest hotel in Amsterdam's city centre, while remaining open all the while. I am incredibly proud of the commitment and dedication of our entire team, who spared no effort to align every detail of our new product with our vision of sustainability, innovation and creating unforgettable experiences with an Amsterdam character.'
