Through a modern clash of art, culture and nightlife, NYX aims to breathe new life into the cultural heritage of Rembrandtplein and create a hub for locals and tourists alike. The official opening is planned for the first half of 2026.
Leonardo Hotels is expanding its portfolio in the Benelux with the introduction of the dynamic lifestyle brand NYX Hotels. Today, the former Eden Hotel building at Amstelstraat 17 is officially being transferred, making NYX Hotel Amsterdam Rembrandt Square a reality. This marks the arrival of the first NYX hotel in the Netherlands, a label that emphasises local art, music and an urban experience. The official opening is planned for the first half of 2026.
NYX Hotels is centrally located on the Amstel River, just a stone's throw from the lively Rembrandtplein. The building itself has a rich history in Amsterdam's city centre: it stands on the site of a 17th-century sugar refinery and later a chocolate factory. The current building is being split and renovated, with the part on the Amstel becoming a Leonardo Hotel and the other side, on Amstelstraat, becoming the new NYX Hotel Amsterdam Rembrandt Square. The NYX section has 161 rooms and will undergo a thorough renovation of the lobby, restaurant-bar area and basement, with the aim of translating the entrepreneurial and vibrant spirit of the location into a place where culture, art and creativity come together.

NYX Hotel Amsterdam Rembrandt Square is designed to be a meeting place for travellers, cultural visitors and locals. The interior design is in the hands of Neudahm Hotel Interior Design, transforming the location into a place where nightlife and cocktails, culture and artistic expression come together.
Patrick Aarsman, interim General Manager for the new NYX Hotel and the Leonardo Eden Hotel Amsterdam City Centre, is overseeing the transition. “The official integration into the Leonardo family on 9 December is a crucial step. The NYX hotel label is known for its edgy and creative approach. I look forward to launching this new brand, which fits perfectly with the cultural dynamics of Amsterdam, in the Benelux.”
The true essence of the NYX Hotel lies in its strong focus on art and creativity, a philosophy that will characterise all rooms in the building. To remain culturally relevant and keep its finger on the pulse of the city, the hotel collaborates with a local curator. The NYX Amsterdam art collection, curated by Natasha Grant, brings together a selection of Dutch artists whose work reflects the raw creativity, subcultures and eclectic energy that characterises Amsterdam.
Rather than simply collecting local artworks, the curation consciously aligns each artist's visual language with the bold, expressive character of the NYX brand. The result is a permanent collection that is compelling, contemporary and deeply connected to the soul of the city.

Alkan Kartal
Alkan is an experimental visual artist whose work combines painting, illustration and digital techniques. His distinctive style creates a colourful, surreal inner world; a “creative chaos” formed into imaginative compositions that play with abstraction, emotion and narrative.
Madelon Uljee
Madelon creates architectural interpretations of nature; sculptural works that amplify botanical structures into bold, spatial forms. Working with vegan leather, steel and iridescent elements, she transforms organic details into contemporary installations that feel both delicate and monumental.
Eveline Schram
Eveline's practice encompasses murals, paintings, plexiglass and digital media. Her work is characterised by strong graphic forms and vibrant colour palettes, often infused with feminist undertones and reflections on modern culture. Her works bring an energetic, contemporary pulse.
Monique Spapens
Monique creates tactile, handmade sculptures and wall objects using recycled and unexpected materials. Her recurring motifs, including expressive lip shapes and powerful female figures, give her work a bold, textured presence rooted in craftsmanship, character and reinvention.
Kees Dekkers
Kees visualises stories of people, organisations and society through transparent sculptural forms made from 100% recycled acrylic. These works can be filled with virtually any material or residual product. In this way, everyday objects are transformed into conceptual art that arouses curiosity and re-examines their value.
The hotel rooms themselves are undergoing appropriate touch-up and will provide a comfortable and inspiring base for guests from all over the world. Equipped with Marshall speakers and luxurious facilities, all rooms invite creativity and relaxation.
Clash and The Record Club
The bar, called Clash bar & bites, will be the beating heart of NYX Hotel and can accommodate around 120 guests. In a luxurious lounge setting, hotel guests, Amsterdam residents and cultural day trippers can come together for signaturecocktails, street food and music from DJs. With unique monthly programming, Clash NYX transforms from a place of arrival to a place of cultural energy.
In addition, the hotel offers a unique cultural event space in the basement: The Record Club. This 150m² acoustically treated venue with a stage is designed for vinyl. listening sessions, DJ sets and spoken word performances and will provide a platform for the local musical, artistic and cultural scene. The space can be hired as an event space.
With 161 rooms, a state-of-the-art TechnoGym fitness studio and various event spaces, NYX Hotel Amsterdam Rembrandt Square sets the bar high for combining design, cocktails and culture in the capital.
