New phase for Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer: permit Marriott International hotel irrevocable

The development of the Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer (HICB) has reached an important new milestone. The environmental permit for the dual-branded Marriott International hotel in Boxmeer has become irrevocable as of 26 February this year, marking the official starting point of the campus development, which will provide a stimulating boost to the region. Construction of the hotel will start in the summer of this year. Completion is scheduled for September 2027.

The hotel, designed by architecture firm UNStudio, is inspired by the historic Maasheggen landscape and comprises two hotel concepts: Courtyard by Marriott with 295 hotel rooms and Residence Inn by Marriott with 123 long-stay stays. Besides high-quality accommodation, the hotel offers a lively plinth with terraces, modern catering facilities and a meeting centre. This makes it the first realisation at HICB, which, as a health innovation hub, brings together companies, healthcare and knowledge institutions in an interactive environment.

Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer brings together various organisations in a dynamic ecosystem where people work together on accelerated innovations within care and health. This focus on health and tech dovetails seamlessly with the spearheads of the enterprising Land van Cuijk municipality, which uses the campus to further strengthen the region's economic strength.

An on-site information centre will open from April 2025, where interested parties can engage in discussions about the possibilities within HICB. The planned green setting around the information centre, will then already give an impression of the future park on campus.

The first development at Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer has an architectural U-shaped design that opens up to the park at the entrance to Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer. This allows the building to integrate naturally into its green surroundings. The dual-branded Marriott hotel, designed by UNStudio, is inspired by the historic UNESCO Maasheggen landscape. These natural elements are reflected in a contemporary way in the design of the building, explains Lars van Hoften of UNStudio: "The hotel has a living green facade, inspired by the art of hedge weaving. The green side facades not only define the image of the hotel, but also contribute to the biodiversity of the campus.
