Stayokay Apeldoorn reopens doors and gets Apenheul family room 

After a thorough refurbishment, it reopens Stayokay Apeldoorn officially opened its doors. The most striking addition to the hostel on Asselsestraat is the Apenheul family room: a collaboration with the neighbouring zoo, making a day out now a complete experience for the whole family. Also for outdoor enthusiasts, the revamped location close to the Veluwe is still the perfect base to get out into nature.

A room full of monkey tricks

In the new themed room, the monkey theme is carried through to the smallest detail. From cheerful wallpaper and a toy chest full of monkey books and games to monkey feet on the floor and interactive door stickers with questions about monkeys; there is plenty for curious children to discover. Guests who book the room also get a discount on tickets to Apenheul. The park is within walking distance, so a day at Apenheul can easily be combined with an overnight stay in the family room.

Marijke Schreiner, Managing Director of Stayokay, says of the partnership: “It actually felt only logical to join forces with our neighbours. Many families who stay here come to Apeldoorn especially for Apenheul. By literally extending that world to our themed room in the middle of the woods, we complete the adventure for the children. If they end up taking that love of the forest and nature home with them, our mission is completely successful.”

In the middle of the forest

From families to solo travellers and adventurous couples, this location on the edge of the Veluwe is the perfect base for anyone who loves being in nature. Besides the new Apenheul family room, refurbished private rooms and shared rooms, guests can also spend the night in one of the four Wikkelhouses: tiny houses made of recycled cardboard. From the hostel, cycling and hiking routes as well as mountain bike trails run straight into the forest, nature starts right here when you step out of the door.

Sustainable renovation

Stayokay Apeldoorn is located in the middle of nature and this is treated with awareness. Care for the environment was therefore central during the renovation. For instance, the hostel was made more sustainable with extra insulation and water-saving showers, taps and toilets. For the interior, sustainable materials were used or reused, such as vintage or refurbished furniture. In this way, Stayokay ensures that not only current, but also future generations can continue to enjoy nature.
