The Mitsubishi Electric WSH-RZ25 is the first air-to-air heat pump in Bureau CRG's database with a quality declaration. As a result, it is now possible to include a certified air-to-air heat pump in a BENG calculation. Until now, one always had to enter a flat-rate value for this type of device in an energy performance calculation.
That the Mitsubishi Electric WSH-RZ25 air-to-air heat pump now has a quality certificate is important for the appliance's application in new construction projects, including compact housing and small-scale hotel concepts. Designers must prepare an energy performance calculation according to NTA 8800 for applying for a building permit. The validated performance from the declaration translates to a more favourable BENG score.
Alklima/Mitsubishi Electric, exclusive distributor of Mitsubishi Electric, sees that with the quality declaration, the possibilities of air-to-air heat pumps within residential construction are increasing significantly. “Until now, the use of a flat rate value was an obstacle to using air-to-air heat pumps in new construction,” says Jaap van Dam, product specialist for residential construction at Alklima. “The arrival of this quality declaration opens up new possibilities. Developments in residential construction, hotel construction and the energy grid also demand it. It offers more flexibility and certainty. For certain projects, this can really make a difference.”
The heat pump works with the refrigerant R290 (propane), making it future-proof. Moreover, in addition to heating, this heat pump also offers full comfort cooling and all the functions of an innovative split air conditioner. This means that the unit can also be of interest for a hotel where efficient heating and cooling of individual rooms is desired.
It is mainly homes where the living space is one unit where this air-to-air heat pump can play an important function. “You can think of flats consisting of one room. But also light and modular construction like studios, tiny houses and, for example, kangaroo and student houses. This principle can also be relevant for a compact hotel with independent units. The quality declaration has been issued specifically for a set, i.e. an outdoor unit with an indoor unit, which provides a heating capacity of 3.2 kW at an outdoor temperature of -10 degrees Celsius,” says Van Dam. “With a simple installation and wide area of application, we really see new possibilities that fit today's laws and regulations, market demand and comfort requirements.”
