Van Sand Paint & Wallpaper introduces Coordonné's new wallpaper collection ‘Damaskus’. The collection is a contemporary interpretation of the rich history of luxurious damask fabrics, which were once transported as precious commodities along the legendary Silk Road. From centrally located Damascus, where cultures and styles converged, the fabrics found their way to the palaces of the European aristocracy. The eleven designs of ‘Damascus’ translate this exchange of influences into a layered and rich wallpaper collection, bringing together patterns with a story and contemporary design.
The famous damask fabric (English: damask), recognisable by its distinct ornamentation and the subtle play between gloss and matt, takes its name from the city of Damascus. At the time of the Silk Road, this city was a major trading hub between Asia, the Middle East and Europe, and was known for its sophisticated silk production. At the heart of the city, looms spun for centuries on which the finest yarns were processed into luxurious jacquard-woven fabrics, enriched with influences from China, Persia, Byzantium and Syria.
With ‘Damaskus’, Coordonné honours this centuries-old textile tradition by reinterpreting classic damask patterns. The wallpaper collection is characterised by lush leaf motifs and arabesque shapes, which have their origins in fabrics from the time of the Silk Road. At the same time, the designs have been translated into a contemporary design language, making them effortlessly compatible with modern interiors, whether classic, eclectic or timeless.

Besides six rich patterns inspired by luxurious damask fabrics, the ‘Damaskus’ collection also includes five narrative designs and murals. These designs refer to the landscapes and life along the Silk Road. This creates a collection that is not only decorative but also captures the imagination: each design tells its own story about the cultural exchange along this historic Silk Road.
