The tenth anniversary of the Lievergoed Collection marks the launch of a new name, a new look and a new culinary direction at the Bijstervelt Estate
Set amidst lush greenery, next to the historic chapel on the Bijstervelt Estate in Oirschot, a new chapter is being added to the history of this unique place. To mark the tenth anniversary of the Lievergoed Collection, the brasserie is being given a new name, a fresh look and a new culinary direction. From 24 September, Jacob van Bijstervelt will open here, with a focus on Burgundian-style shared dining. A place where the past remains palpable and new stories unfold around the table. Historic in character, contemporary at the table.
The name Jacob van Bijstervelt marks the beginning of a new chapter in a history stretching back centuries. The name is inspired by Jacob Dirk Baron Sweerts de Landas, whose family was closely linked to the development of the Bijstervelt Estate.
The traditional à la carte menu is giving way to shared dining: a selection of smaller dishes that invite you to sample and share. Hearty, approachable and with a focus on quality, local produce and personalised hospitality.
The dishes on the menu range from nine to nineteen euros. Think of tuna tataki or watermelon with feta, but also flavours from closer to home. In this way, Bijstervelt’s Burgundian character is given a contemporary interpretation on the plate.
Anyone who dines at Jacob van Bijstervelt is automatically treated to the unique surroundings. The restaurant is built against the historic Montfort Chapel and, together with the chapel and the surrounding greenery, forms a single harmonious whole. It is precisely this combination that gives Bijstervelt its unique character: rustic and historic, yet at the same time warm, lively and welcoming, all served with a generous spirit.
The refurbished bistro opens on 24 September. From Wednesday to Sunday, you’re welcome from 10.00 am for Brabant-style coffee and cakes. From 11.30 am, you can sit down to enjoy, for example, an Oirschot curry soup or the chef’s lunch menu. And from Wednesday to Saturday, the table is set for shared dining from 5.00 pm.

The revamp coincides with a special moment for Lievergoed. Ten years ago, Klaas van Leengoed and Niek van Lieverloo joined forces with the ambition of giving historic sites a new future. The Lievergoed Collection now comprises Maurick Castle in Vught, Dussen Castle and the Bijstervelt Estate in Oirschot.
This anniversary is not just a time to look back, but above all to look ahead. Because heritage should be brought to life. By cherishing what makes a place special, whilst at the same time making room for new stories, new flavours and new generations of guests. At Jacob van Bijstervelt, it all starts quite simply: sitting down together at the table.
“There’s something special about Bijstervelt. Set amidst the greenery, with light streaming through the historic chapel, you can feel the history of this place everywhere – it’s almost magical. At the same time, it’s warm, welcoming and, above all, very Brabant. A place to get together, enjoy good food and, above all, have a good time.”, according to Klaas van Leengoed.
The Lievergoed Collection comprises three exceptional historic sites in North Brabant: Maurick Castle in Vught, Dussen Castle and the Bijstervelt Estate in Oirschot. The collection was built up by business partners Klaas van Leengoed and Niek van Lieverloo, who began managing the 15th-century Maurick Castle in 2015.
Their vision is to breathe new life into historic heritage by combining history with contemporary gastronomy and Brabant hospitality. The venues provide space for restaurants, weddings, business meetings, parties and special events. In this way, the history remains palpable, whilst each venue is given plenty of scope to create new memories.
