Romantic getaways popular: Valentine's Day bookings rise & couples spend more

Love is in the air, and the figures for bookings for romantic getaways around Valentine's Day from HotelSpecials.com . There is a huge 73% increase in bookings in 2025 compared to last year, with people mainly choosing to stay at home. Couples are massively choosing romantic stays to celebrate their love, and are even willing to spend an average of €30 more for a more luxurious adventure. This trend reflects a growing desire for special moments together, with enjoying luxury and extras such as flowers, rose petals, wine and bubbles becoming increasingly popular. Moreover, Valentine's Day falls on the weekend this year, further adding to the appeal of a romantic getaway. 

Netherlands as favourite destination 

Belgium saw a slight increase of 8%, while Germany showed a decrease of 15%. Nevertheless, the Netherlands remains the absolute favourite when it comes to romantic getaways. The provinces of Zuid-Holland (+130%), Utrecht (+100%) and Noord-Brabant (+103%) in particular show explosive growth, followed by Friesland (+54%) and Gelderland (+48%), where demand for romantic weekend getaways is rising significantly. 

Popular cities and extra's in the spotlight 

Popular cities such as Leiden, The Hague, Leeuwarden, Haarlem and Breda are seeing a huge rise in interest.
