Platform on hotelmanagement, interiordesign and design in the Netherlands
Since the summer, the Dutch Labour Inspectorate has been carrying out inspections at an estimated 120 hotel locations. The focus of these inspections is on the physical strain experienced by cleaning staff. Among other things, inspectors are examining working methods, ergonomic aids, staff training and the way in which physical strain is incorporated into the risk assessment and evaluation (RI&E).
Livingstone Resort opened in 2001 in the Jan Thiel district. At the time, tourism on Curaçao was still in its infancy. The developer, Livinvest, built a resort inspired by the island itself: its warm colours and authentic style. The resort is named after David Livingstone (1813–1873) as a tribute, even though he never visited the island. A man who, as a missionary, doctor and explorer, set out into the world with a sense of curiosity and a deep respect for humanity. He fought against injustice and sought to build connections.
Staff shortages in the hospitality industry are often attributed to a tight labour market. There are simply too few people available, vacancies remain unfilled for longer, and competing sectors are attracting the same staff. That is true, but it is only part of the problem. Because even when a hotel manages to find new staff, there is still no long-term solution if those same people leave again after a few months or a few years.
