Independent Hotel Show Amsterdam: the hotel trends of 2026

SHAPING TOMORROW: the hotel trends of 2026

Retrieved from 22 and 23 April 2026 RAI Amsterdam will once again transform into an inspiring boutique hotel during the Independent Hotel Show Amsterdam. This small-scale trade fair is aimed at independent hoteliers, general managers and professionals from the upper end of the hospitality sector. Under the theme Shaping Tomorrow: Where Innovation Meets Independent Spirit, the fair promises another forward-looking look at the future of international hotel concepts.

The Independent Hotel Show is now a fixture in the international hospitality calendar, with successful editions in London, Munich, Miami and Amsterdam. The concept is deliberately small-scale and carefully curated: no massive exhibition floor, but a platform where quality, innovation and distinctiveness take centre stage. More than 200 selected brands present solutions relevant to boutique hotels and luxury hospitality concepts, while visitors meet to exchange knowledge and ideas.

Design as a strategic tool

Design takes centre stage at the fair. Interiors, materials and experience are seen as strategic means to strengthen identity and guest experience. Besides hotel managers, interior designers, architects and property developers also visit the fair. With guests becoming increasingly discerning, the show shows how aesthetics, functionality and sustainability come together in future-proof hotel concepts. From lobby and room to restaurant, wellness and outdoor space. “Invisible architecture is also becoming increasingly important, says trend forecaster Vincent van Dijk. “Elements such as scents, sounds and lighting determine the atmosphere and experience in a hotel. There are always techniques to adjust and personalise these automatically every moment of the day.”

Practical innovation and international exhibitors

At the 2026 edition, more than 200 exhibitors will present their latest products and services, ranging from bedding and lighting to guest communications and security solutions.

Trends in 2026

The theme Shaping Tomorrow will be translated into a substantive programme on trends defining hotels of tomorrow. Trend forecaster Vincent van Dijk explains: “Flexible architecture and modular interiors respond to an increasingly unpredictable world. Sustainability translates into ‘travel light’ concepts, smart water management and circular materials. Inclusive hospitality requires design choices that take into account diverse needs. At the same time, automation and AI are taking over repetitive tasks, allowing employees to focus on personalised guest experiences.”

A meeting place for forward thinkers

For managers, owners and decision-makers, the Independent Hotel Show is above all a place to look ahead. Here, trends become tangible, conversations between design and operations emerge, and ideas are translated into concrete plans. With registration now open, hoteliers and designers can prepare for two days full of inspiration, innovation and entrepreneurship. The Independent Hotel Show Amsterdam 2026 shows that the future of hospitality is being shaped at the intersection of design, technology and independent vision, and that this is precisely where the greatest opportunities lie for those who want to stand out.

“In the entire hospitality industry, we see that the middle ground is getting harder and harder. Guests are increasingly opting for distinctive and high-quality concepts on which they spend their money. Companies that do not adapt and reinvent themselves time and again will not survive,” says Vincent van Dijk. “The Independent Hotel Show helps hoteliers do this by connecting them with innovative brands and passionate entrepreneurs. Because you can only innovate together.”

Hoteliers and other accommodation providers, designers and architects can register free of charge. Suppliers must purchase a ticket.

INDEPENDENT HOTEL SHOW AMSTERDAM AWARDS

During the fair, the Independent Hotel Show Amsterdam Awards will once again be presented, including for the best independent hotel and the best Independent Hotelier of the Year. The awards were created to spotlight independent hotels and independent-thinking hoteliers and designers. “Few people realise that independent hotels make up 80% of the hotel market, says hospitality consultant Sander Allegro. “Small-scale luxury and boutique hotels are so in demand that big hotel chains are buying them, branching them or starting boutique chains themselves. That is why it is good that independent hotels are put in the spotlight during these awards.”

HOTEL INFLUENCERS TOP 100

In addition, the Hotel Influencers Top 100 will be announced during the event. This is a brand new, exclusive list of the most trendsetting and tastemaking individuals from the hotel industry in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. From innovative hoteliers to creative hospitality experts, this selection highlights professionals who are making a difference in the industry. The list focuses on individuals who are making their mark independently and setting new trends, and will be festively announced during the Independent Hotel Show Amsterdam.
