Bravis Hospital has secured the funding for its new building at De Bulkenaar in Roosendaal. The hospital has entered into an agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB), ABN AMRO, Rabobank and the Healthcare Sector Guarantee Fund. Construction is due to start in October 2026. If everything goes according to plan, the new hospital will open its doors in 2030.
Whilst the design for the new hospital was being drawn up, the planning permission was being secured and further preparations were being made, the Finance & Control department worked hard to finalise the financing. Excluding the preparatory work, the financing process took over two years. Thomas Groenewoud, Cluster Manager for Finance & Control, is therefore delighted that it has been successful. “I am proud of everyone who helped make this possible. Thanks to their commitment and Bravis’s financially stable results in recent years, the financiers have confidence in our new-build project. It is also pleasing that the health insurers have endorsed the need for the new hospital, thereby laying a solid foundation for the future to ensure the hospital is utilised to its full potential.”
The new hospital at De Bulkenaar will replace the two existing buildings in Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom. In Bergen op Zoom, an outpatient clinic will remain in the form of a healthcare centre.
The new development at De Bulkenaar will cover approximately 77,500 m² and consist of four so-called ‘cloverleaf’ blocks, with an atrium at their centre. In total, there will be space for around 450 hospital beds. Approximately 75% of these will be in single rooms. The New Bravis will be completely gas-free and will be able to meet as much of its own energy requirements as possible.
The cost of building the new hospital is estimated at 450 million euros. Bravis has been saving up over recent years to cover part of the costs from its own funds. The remainder will be borrowed from lenders. Albert-Jan Mante, a member of the Board of Directors, is delighted with the financing agreement that has been concluded. “This demonstrates that the banks have confidence in our hospital’s strong financial position. Furthermore, they support our ambition to create a sustainable and future-proof hospital where patients enjoy their stay, visitors feel welcome and staff can work effectively and comfortably.”
