In the heart of Amsterdam East, The Manor Hotel is embarking on a new chapter. Today, the historic landmark on Linnaeusstraat officially reopened its doors as part of the Leonardo Limited Edition collection. This transformation marks Leonardo’s first rebranding within a broader investment strategy, as the group continually seeks opportunities to strengthen and renew its presence in the region. In this historic building – the birthplace of Johan Cruijff – heritage and contemporary energy come together in a setting of ‘casual luxury’ . With the arrival of the renowned restaurant PepeNero under the same roof, The Manor Hotel has been transformed into a vibrant hotspot where locals and travellers come together for design, history and authentic Italian cuisine.

The former Burgerziekenhuis and Buitengasthuis, situated on the outskirts of the city and bordering the bustling Amsterdam-Oost district, has a rich history and has always been a focal point in the neighbourhood. The imposing 19th-century building, once a beacon of care and the birthplace of the legendary Johan Cruijff, has been completely renovated into a stylish hotel where historic grandeur and modern comfort blend seamlessly. A place where you sleep within walls steeped in character, dine in an Italian atmosphere and feel the energy of the city the moment you step outside. Oost now has a new meeting place for city

The Manor has panache

At the helm of this transformation is General Manager Nicole Lagas, who, with her roots in Amsterdam’s hospitality industry and the local community, acts as a bridge between the hotel and the city. “The Manor has that distinctive Amsterdam flair,” says Lagas. “We have preserved the soul of this historic building, but the energy is entirely contemporary. It is a place where you can feel the history, but where you come above all to make new memories. A home that belongs just as much to the people of Amsterdam as it does to our international guests.”

As soon as you step inside, you immediately sense the soul of the hotel and its architectural grandeur is palpable. Neudahm Design has preserved the historic features—such as the high ceilings, wide corridors and distinctive brickwork—and enhanced them with a contemporary interior that feels warm and homely. The atmosphere is elegant, inviting and cosmopolitan; casual luxury with character.

A home away from home

Each of the 125 rooms has been renovated with an eye for detail. These are no ordinary hotel rooms, but spaces with a distinct retro vibe; modern, cosy and characterised by a mid-century aesthetic. Rich materials, tactile surfaces and layered details take centre stage, reflecting the growing desire for comfort, character and personal expression.

PepeNero brings a taste of Italy to Linnaeusstraat

Right next to the lobby is the renowned PepeNero. Under the leadership of host Daniele Lauritano, this Amsterdam favourite opened its second branch here in early April. PepeNero has been a household name in the city for years; from Mick Jagger and Bono to the Ajax squad, Amsterdam’s in-crowd knows how to find its way to Daniele’s kitchen. From classic antipasti to the iconic pasta prepared at the table inside a huge block of Parmesan cheese; PepeNero brings authentic Italian passion to The Manor.
