Located on a vast estate of over 50 hectares is Engelenburg Castle in Brummen. This historic castle includes a hotel, a 9-hole golf course, a fine dining restaurant and various business facilities. Upon arrival over the imposing driveway, the characteristic castle building unfolds, where old and new elements come together in a special way. Extensive renovations have been carried out here in recent years, and further refurbishments are planned.
In the newly renovated arrival hall, you immediately taste the atmosphere of luxury and authenticity. The gold-covered desk, a tasteful floral arrangement on a marble tabletop and comfortable poufs warmly welcome guests. To the left is a warm and professional reception desk, where the front of house team is ready to answer any question. This arrival hall is just a taste of the renovations the castle is currently undergoing.
Director André Tammer enthusiastically says: "The history of Engelenburg Castle is tangible in every corner. From the building itself to the paintings that hang throughout the property portraying the old residents. We embrace that heritage, but we also want to modernise in a way that suits the history. For instance, we will soon use augmented reality to bring some of the paintings to life, bringing the past even closer to the visitor."
Every renovation at the castle is thoughtfully and carefully executed, with the aim of respecting the building's history while giving it a contemporary look. For example, new gold signage signs were recently installed, exuding subtle luxury. Together with designer Ludo van Tachup, a design was created in which the castle's logo is stylishly engraved in the signs.
The conference rooms will also be completely renovated next year. These rooms are named after historical figures who played a role in the castle's story. "We want to preserve that connection with the past," says Tammer. "The rooms will have an interior that matches the personality and time of the figures they represent, from use of colour to furniture."
Later this year, the addition of wellness facilities to the hotel is planned, so leisure and business guests alike can fully relax after a wonderful walk, bike ride or a round of golf: the historic 9-hole course offers seasoned golfers and newcomers alike a wonderful playing experience. The Golf Lab, the golf academy affiliated to the castle, is ready to train new talents or further help experienced players.
And after a day of meetings or golf, there is the option of dining in the castle's fine-dining restaurant, which has been awarded 15.5 points by Gault & Millau. This makes Engelenburg Castle a unique destination where history, nature, luxury and culinary refinement come together.
