Combining atmosphere with a longer lifespan
Lighting has long been more than just a functional element of hotel interiors. Light sets the mood, shapes the experience of spaces and can give a restaurant, lobby or terrace a completely different character throughout the day. With its new brand, d.ls – Duni Lighting Solutions, the Duni Group is now making a decisive move into the field of professional hospitality lighting.
The launch comprises two parts. Firstly, there will be a professional range of wireless mood lighting and accessories for indoor and outdoor use. In addition, d.ls is presenting a separate design collection, developed in collaboration with hospitality design studio Stylt Trampoli and Signify myCreation.
For hotels, it is particularly this combination of design and practicality that is of interest. Wireless lighting makes it possible to create atmosphere without being dependent on fixed connection points. This offers greater freedom when designing restaurants, bars, lobbies, terraces and other guest areas, amongst other things. Tables can be arranged differently, seating areas can be reconfigured, and outdoor spaces can also be more easily provided with their own lighting scheme.
However, when it comes to lighting in the hospitality sector, there is more to it than just aesthetics. Lamps are used intensively, must be able to last through long shifts and, in outdoor environments, have to cope with changing conditions. d.ls’s professional range has therefore been developed with features such as replaceable batteries, a long service life and IP ratings for various applications in mind.
“In the hospitality sector, high-quality lighting is essential; it must perform consistently throughout the entire service and contribute to the guest experience,” says Mikael Bergman, General Manager of d.ls – Duni Lighting Solutions. According to him, the new range must combine ambience with operational efficiency and a longer service life.
This brings the launch into line with a trend that is becoming increasingly relevant in hotel interiors: interior design products must not only be visually appealing, but also practical, easy to maintain and sustainable.

This concept is prominently reflected in the new design collection. It will be presented internationally during Milan Design Week and has been developed in collaboration with Stylt Trampoli and Signify myCreation.
The design makes use of recycled 3D-printed materials. The number of components, the ease of maintenance and the use of replaceable batteries have also been taken into account in the design. The idea is that a lamp does not need to be discarded immediately when an individual component or the battery needs replacing.
This is an interesting approach to hospitality design. Sustainability is not treated as an afterthought, but as an integral part of the construction and choice of materials.
“Renaissance thinking and contemporary design come together here,” says Erik Nissen Johansen, founder of Stylt Trampoli, about the collaboration. Signify myCreation brings expertise in new production methods to the project. According to Bart Maeyens, Global Business Leader at Signify myCreation, the collaboration centres on combining design ambition with more efficient use of materials.
For hotel designers and operators, the main benefit ultimately lies in flexibility. Whilst fixed lighting forms part of the architecture, wireless lighting can be adapted much more easily to the way a space is used.
A breakfast restaurant can take on a different atmosphere in the evening, a hotel lobby can be divided into smaller seating areas, and a terrace can be fitted with additional lighting without the need for complex installation work.
As a result, the lamp is becoming less of a standalone accessory and more of a flexible component of the interior design concept. It is precisely at this intersection of design, guest experience and everyday use that d.ls – Duni Lighting Solutions aims to position itself within the hospitality market.
