The two experienced leaders start ahead of the major relaunch in 2025. Markus Fritz (51) and Mike de Boer (38) have been recruited by Archer Hotel Management and Renaissance Amsterdam to lead the hotel into a new era. They have been appointed general manager and commercial director respectively.
Thanks to its owners, Archer Hotel Capital, the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel launched a major renovation last year. The extensive project includes the construction of more than 100 additional new rooms on top of the existing 400, the conversion of the top floor into a rooftop bar with a restaurant, speakeasy, vegetable garden, and a completely new hospitality offering on the ground floor, open to the local community. In addition, the hotel will have a new inner tower with modern rooms and a striking bar underneath.
After almost 25 years, Markus Fritz is leaving Hilton, for which he worked all over the world. His extensive international experience will be crucial in his role as General Manager of the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel. His main focus over the next year will be on the reopening of the hotel, scheduled for October 2025, and in the long term on positioning the hotel as the leading hotel in Amsterdam. Markus' priorities include promoting a sustainable future, establishing high-quality hospitality, and involving local residents in the hotel while delivering service excellence.
Like Markus, Mike comes from Hilton, where he worked for 15 years in various countries and positions. As Commercial Director of Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel, Mike will focus on building and leading the commercial team, including sales, marketing, revenue management, group sales and reservations. With next year's relaunch in sight, his priorities include successfully promoting the new rooms, restaurant and bars, including the historic Koepelkerk with its unique event space. Ultimately, his goal is to ensure that the hotel becomes the leading hotel in their segment, where Amsterdammers feel completely at home.
The Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel is expanding the number of rooms from 402 to 500, with each room carefully renovated and designed with the Netherlands and Amsterdam as a central theme. Some rooms are already available and showcase three room types: the Outlook rooms contain references to Rembrandt and offer stunning views of the historic city centre. The Reflective rooms, located in the new inner tower, are inspired by maritime navigation, with details of stars and the microcosm. Finally, the Hide & Seek rooms are ideal for working holidays and offer the perfect workspace in the heart of Amsterdam.
