NKC survey: nine out of ten motorhome owners would buy another motorhome straight away

Despite the higher motor vehicle tax for motorhomes, enthusiasm among Dutch motorhome owners remains as strong as ever. No fewer than 90% of motorhome owners would buy another motorhome if they had to choose again today. This is according to a member survey conducted by the NKC amongst more than 1,000 motorhome owners.

The results show that, for many Dutch people, a motorhome is much more than just a means of transport. The freedom, flexibility and enjoyment of travelling appear to outweigh rising costs or changing regulations. “There has been a great deal of attention recently on the higher tax on motorhomes. That is precisely why we find it striking that nine out of ten motorhome owners say they would make the same choice again. This shows just how much value people place on travelling by motorhome,” says Ingeborg Meulman, Managing Director at NKC.

Holiday fun is on the rise

This satisfaction is not limited to the purchase itself. The survey shows that 81% of respondents say they enjoy their holidays more since they’ve had a motorhome. Only 0.4% say that holidays have become less enjoyable. There is also a great deal of enthusiasm for the future. 88% expect to go on motorhome trips at least as often, or even more often, in the coming years. Only 6% think they will travel less often.

Freedom remains the main driving force

When asked why people choose a motorhome, 44% cite freedom as the main reason. A further 32% cite flexibility. Together, these two factors are the main motivation for three-quarters of motorhome owners to travel by motorhome. In addition, nearly 97% say that the motorhome now plays an important or even indispensable role in their lives. “These results confirm what we have been seeing for some time. For motorhome owners, it’s not just about a holiday, but a way of life. Deciding for yourself where to go, how long to stay and discovering new places along the way is the greatest luxury for many people,” says [NKC spokesperson].

NKC is celebrating its 50th anniversary

The survey results are being published in the year in which the NKC celebrates its 50th anniversary. According to the association, the findings underscore that the appeal of motorhome travel remains as strong as ever, even after half a century.
