Vingcard hotel technology: the total solution for hospitality

In hospitality, Vingcard is best known for its hotel lock. Yet Jeroen Coesmans makes it clear that the company is positioning itself much more broadly today. The lock on the hotel door remains the recognisable starting point, but behind it there is now a larger technological story: mobile access, room automation, parking management, linen management and middleware that connects various hotel systems.

Vingcard hotel technology: the total solution for hospitality 1

Coesmans stresses that Vingcard has been present at the fair since its first edition. According to him, that presence is not only about meeting existing and new customers, but also about showing “what we do more than just the well-known Vingcard slot”. That is immediately the core of his message. Vingcard does not want to be seen exclusively as a supplier of card locks, but as a provider of a broader solution for hotels.

The story does start with that lock. Coesmans refers to the classic Vingcard card slot as “where it all started”. According to him, this was the first card slot that could be reprogrammed by making new punch cards. Interestingly, according to him, these locks are still in use today, including in hotels, ferries and night trains. This presents the origins of Vingcard not as something from the past, but as a foundation that is still relevant.

Terminology from those early days also lives on. Coesmans explains that the term “cutting key cards” comes from there. In today's practice, key cards are no longer physically cut out, but programmed. The old language has remained, while the technology has evolved.

Today, the focus is on new forms of access. Among other things, Coesmans mentions the “latest in card locks” and refers to the wallet key. In this, the key is in the phone and the guest can use his smartphone as a means of access. The function of the room key remains the same, but the means changes: from card to mobile.

The story does not end there. Coesmans talks about “the Vingcard Solution”, and that very term shows how the company portrays itself. Vingcard does not just want to show individual products, but a total solution within what he calls the “Tech Stacks”. Here, he mentions guest management systems for room climate control, but also control over lighting and curtains.

In addition, parking management comes up through sister organisation Skidata. Linen management is also mentioned as part of the broader solution. According to Coesmans, linen is a major cost item in hotels that often has little visibility. By scanning textiles, a hotel can gain insight into what goes out, what comes back from the laundry, how many wash cycles a towel has had, how many towels are present and when to reorder.

The common thread in the story is integration. Coesmans argues that hotels often have many systems in place, but that those systems “often don't talk to each other”. He contrasts that with VConnect: middleware that allows Vingcard to connect different tech stacks in a hotel.

According to him, those links can be made in several ways: cloud to cloud, cloud to server and server to server. Vingcard can thus link PMS systems to its own locks, but also to other locks, television, phone and payment. The aim is for Vingcard to “weave” itself into the hotel's tech stack. According to Coesmans, this provides more features and greater convenience for both hotel operations and the guest experience.

This creates a clear development. Vingcard no longer presents itself only as a supplier of the well-known hotel lock, but as a technology partner that wants to connect different parts of the hotel operation. The lock remains the most visible product, but the bigger story is in the systems around it. In access, room comfort, operational insight and integration, the total solution emerges with which Vingcard wants to distinguish itself within hospitality.

00:00:07,000 -> 00:00:09,120
From the first edition onwards,
we participate in this fair,

00:00:09,120 -> 00:00:11,520
and it's a
nice opportunity

00:00:11,520 -> 00:00:13,040
to our customers
meet,

00:00:13,040 -> 00:00:14,880
learn new customers
know.

00:00:14,880 -> 00:00:18,000
But in addition, to everything
to show what we do more

00:00:18,000 -> 00:00:20,000
than just the familiar
Vingcard slot.

00:00:22,240 -> 00:00:23,920
This is where it all
started with.

00:00:23,920 -> 00:00:25,560
The Vingcard Card slot.

00:00:25,560 -> 00:00:27,360
That's where Vingcard once
started,

00:00:27,360 -> 00:00:30,040
that was the first card slot
what you again

00:00:30,040 -> 00:00:33,120
could programme through new
punch cards to make.

00:00:33,120 -> 00:00:35,720
And these locks are still
still in use.

00:00:35,720 -> 00:00:38,040
In a number of hotels but
also on ferries

00:00:38,040 -> 00:00:39,680
or night trains
for example.

00:00:40,040 -> 00:00:42,280
That's where the term
cutting key cards from.

00:00:42,280 -> 00:00:43,960
That is still being
used in the market

00:00:43,960 -> 00:00:45,760
These days we cut
no more keycards,

00:00:45,760 -> 00:00:46,760
it is being programmed.

00:00:46,760 -> 00:00:48,920
But the term is still alive
forth in the industry.

00:00:49,240 -> 00:00:51,560
And what we have today
be able to show

00:00:51,560 -> 00:00:54,840
is the latest on the
of card slots.

00:00:54,840 -> 00:00:57,240
Now we have
So a wallet card...

00:00:58,960 -> 00:01:01,120
...making your phone
can use,

00:01:01,120 -> 00:01:02,160
as a wallet key,

00:01:02,160 -> 00:01:04,200
making your keycard
in your phone.

00:01:04,200 -> 00:01:05,880
What we show is
actually

00:01:05,880 -> 00:01:07,560
The Vingcard Solution.

00:01:07,840 -> 00:01:10,360
We offer as Vingcard
nowadays

00:01:10,360 -> 00:01:12,560
more in the Tech Stacks
as we call it.

00:01:12,560 -> 00:01:15,560
We offer gasco-
management systems, for example.

00:01:16,040 -> 00:01:18,200
For climate control
in your room

00:01:18,200 -> 00:01:19,840
and control over
lighting,

00:01:19,840 -> 00:01:21,800
curtains among others
in your room.

00:01:21,800 -> 00:01:24,560
In addition, we also offer
parking management of

00:01:24,560 -> 00:01:27,360
our sister organisation
Ski dates.

00:01:27,920 -> 00:01:29,480
Also offer
we have solutions for

00:01:29,480 -> 00:01:31,800
linen tracking
and linen management.

00:01:31,800 -> 00:01:34,560
That's a big cost
at a hotel

00:01:34,560 -> 00:01:35,520
where often
little visibility.

00:01:35,520 -> 00:01:37,800
So we can
textile scanning and

00:01:37,800 -> 00:01:40,160
therefore understanding
give in your textiles.

00:01:40,160 -> 00:01:41,120
What is
gone out?

00:01:41,120 -> 00:01:42,760
What comes back
of laundry?

00:01:42,760 -> 00:01:45,240
How many wash cycles does a
had a particular towel?

00:01:45,240 -> 00:01:46,880
How many towels do I have
in my hotel?

00:01:46,880 -> 00:01:49,200
When am I due again
going to reorder?

00:01:49,200 -> 00:01:52,240
There are often a lot of systems
at a hotel

00:01:52,240 -> 00:01:54,600
but those systems talk
often not with each other.

00:01:54,600 -> 00:01:57,120
Well, we also
middleware within Vingcard,

00:01:57,120 -> 00:01:58,560
which is called
VConnect.

00:01:58,560 -> 00:02:01,280
Whereby we Tech Stacks
can connect in a hotel.

00:02:01,280 -> 00:02:03,000
That does not matter whether it
running on a server

00:02:03,000 -> 00:02:03,640
or in the cloud,

00:02:03,640 -> 00:02:05,240
it can be cloud to cloud,
cloud to server,

00:02:05,240 -> 00:02:07,640
server to server
and we can then

00:02:07,640 -> 00:02:10,000
PMS pairing
with our locks,

00:02:10,000 -> 00:02:12,680
but also with
other type of locks,

00:02:12,680 -> 00:02:15,160
with television,
With phone,

00:02:15,160 -> 00:02:16,440
with payment.

00:02:16,440 -> 00:02:19,080
So that way
we actually intertwine

00:02:19,080 -> 00:02:20,960
in the Tech Stack,
making it

00:02:20,960 -> 00:02:23,360
offers more features
and more

00:02:23,360 -> 00:02:25,520
convenience for
both operations

00:02:25,520 -> 00:02:27,600
of hotel as well as
for the guest experience.
