The first NYX Hotel in the Benelux is set to open its doors in Amsterdam on 25 June

A new hotspot on Rembrandtplein, with a permanent art curator and ‘Vibe Manager’, offers a permanent platform for Amsterdam’s creative scene.

On 25 June, NYX Hotel Amsterdam Rembrandt Square will officially open its doors at Amstelstraat 17. At a time when creative artists in Amsterdam are finding ever less space and support, the hotel aims to actively contribute to preserving the city’s creative energy. With its multi-faceted cultural programme, NYX offers a meeting place for both the local scene and international hotel guests. With the arrival of Clash Bar & Bites in the hotel and the intimate atmosphere of the Record Club in the basement, this traditionally cultural neighbourhood can look forward to a new hotspot where art and individuality come together. 

More than just a tribute to the neighbourhood’s creative spirit

The location of this brand-new hotel is steeped in Amsterdam’s history. In the 17th century, the building served as a sugar refinery; today, NYX draws on a different source: the neighbourhood’s artistic heritage. For decades, the Rembrandtplein area was the domain of artists, comedians and writers who brought Amsterdam to life. Inspired by this historical heritage, NYX is making it a priority to translate this unique energy into the present day and to actively invest in Amsterdam’s culture. To this end, NYX has brought in Rocky Khedoe as ‘Community & Vibe Manager’: “Amsterdam is buzzing with creativity, but creators have fewer and fewer places where they can be seen and really connect. With NYX, we’re building a cultural platform where art, fashion, music and talent come together: raw, inspiring and right in the heart of the city.”

Arts and culture programme

To ensure a constant flow of creativity, the hotel is launching a multi-faceted programme centred on music, art and fashion. Patrick Aarsman, General Manager of NYX Hotel Amsterdam: “We see just how much creative energy Amsterdam has, but also how much pressure is on it. That’s why we believe it’s important to contribute to the city and its creative community. With the first NYX in the Benelux, we want not only to open a hotel, but also to create a place that captures and amplifies the city’s creative energy.”

Amsterdam’s subcultures on display

Under the direction of curator Natasha Grant, a permanent art collection has been curated that reflects the city’s raw, eclectic spirit. Works by leading Dutch artists Alkan Kartal, Madelon Uljee, Eveline Schram, Monique Spapens, Kees Dekkers and Alex Covert lend each space in the building its own edgy character. From Spapens’ tactile sculptures to Dekkers’ conceptual works: the art at NYX is a deliberate reflection of Amsterdam’s subcultures. Guests visiting NYX can take an audio tour to learn more about each artwork, the artist, the piece itself and its connection to Amsterdam. The result is a immersive an environment that stimulates, inspires and encourages creativity.

Clash & Record Club: where energy and vinyl come together

The beating heart of NYX Hotel is Clash Bar & Bites. With an urban and graphic interior and space for a hundred guests, this is the place where locals and travellers meet amidst changing exhibitions and creative energy. The bar concept revolves around contrasts: the cocktails are crafted like works of art with a focus on surprising flavours, whilst the menu features international dishes designed to be shared. By combining familiar ingredients in unexpected ways, every order creates a flavourful ‘clash’. Clash also provides a stage for DJs and other performances, with a strong focus on the after-five scene.

Alongside the vibrant atmosphere of Clash, the basement offers a space for a more intimate experience at the Record Club. This acoustically treated space pays tribute to vinyl culture. With a private bar and its own stage for intimate listening sessions and spoken-word performances, it serves as the intimate counterpart to the creative energy of Clash Bar & Bites, as well as a new platform for the creative scene. 

High-quality comfort with an edgy edge

The interior of NYX breaks with traditional standards and exudes a graphic, urban vibe. The 161 rooms feature a burlesque style, combined with graffiti-style text on the headboards, and are equipped with iconic Marshall speakers. The high-end experience continues downstairs, where an ultra-modern Technogym fitness studio is located in the basement.

Through NYX, Clash Bar & Bites, its cultural programme and its platform for Amsterdam’s trendsetters, the hotel aims to actively contribute to the city’s creative energy.
