Optimal sleeping comfort with environmentally conscious operations

Bed manufacturer keeps costs in check for international hotel industry

When it comes to quality and service, hotel guests expect ever-higher standards. Sleep comfort plays a crucial role in this. After all, the core of any hotel experience is a good night's sleep. High-quality beds, box springs and sofa beds - produced by Dominari and supplied by their partner Pollux BV - are a must. "With us, optimal sleeping comfort and environmental awareness go hand in hand," says Rolf Das, managing director of Pollux BV.

A general trend is that more and more consumers are weighing up the sustainability factor in all their purchasing decisions - and that includes booking a hotel stay, for example. As a result, hotel companies are finding it increasingly important to source from suppliers who are environmentally conscious. Dominari, with production facilities in Lithuania, serves as an international role model in this respect. Rolf Das explains: "Dominari operates five production sites in Lithuania with a total area of 200,000 m². The production process is fully vertically integrated; that is, all raw materials required for the production of beds, box springs and sofa beds are manufactured in-house. From the pocket springs to the foam and wooden frames: everything is produced locally. This minimises transport movements and significantly reduces the ecological footprint. Moreover, only certified wood and recycled packaging materials are used."

Quality foam

According to Das, Dominari's vertical integration offers additional benefits, such as ensuring quality and comfort. "For example, you often see cheap calcium carbonate added to the foam of a mattress. That increases the weight, but not the quality. Dominari, on the other hand, works exclusively with foam from its own production, without calcium carbonate, which results in a much longer life of the mattresses. In addition, the frames are made of solid wood and the slatted bases are extensively tested for firmness. Their sofa beds feature pocket springs instead of foam, so they feel like a real bed. In short, everything is aimed at optimal sleeping comfort for the hotel guest."

Logistics operation

Since 2017, Pollux BV has been working as a partner of Dominari to serve the European bed and furniture industry. Within the hotel industry, the company mainly focuses on large-scale projects. "For example, we recently delivered more than two thousand beds to several hotels in Spain," says Das. "Such projects represent a complex logistical operation that has to be carefully planned. By supplying our customers directly from Dominari's factories in Lithuania, without using middlemen, we keep costs low and delivery times short."

Saving transport costs

To make the transport and storage of new mattresses even more efficient, Pollux B.V. offers an innovative solution: rolling up mattresses. Das explains how this seemingly small measure can generate significant cost savings: "Suppose a hotel in Madrid - with 140 rooms - orders new beds. Rolling up the mattresses reduces transport volume by as much as 75 per cent. As a result, almost four times as many mattresses fit in a truck. For a project in Madrid, where the distance from Lithuania is 3,400 km, this saves almost four trucks. With transport costs of around 4,000 euros per truck, our customers thus save more than 15,000 euros."

In overseas projects, such as in the Caribbean, these savings can be even more significant, Das continues: "By drastically reducing the transport volume, not only transport costs are reduced, but also the cost of complex logistics operations and the storage space required. For customers in such regions, rolling up mattresses therefore offers unprecedented efficiency and significant cost benefits."
