On Thursday 30 January 2025, Prinsenhof Groningen received the prestigious five-star rating. As the first hotel in the province of Groningen with this high recognition, it confirms its status as a leading destination for luxury, hospitality and quality. The classification was awarded by Hotelsterren, an organisation that manages the official European seal of approval for hotels. This hallmark, based on a four-yearly assessment, is supported in the Netherlands by Koninklijke Horeca Nederland.
The five-star rating was achieved through a comprehensive assessment of more than 200 objective criteria. These included the quality of service, the facilities, and the unique experience offered by the hotel. Prinsenhof's historic ambience, combined with contemporary comfort, played an important role in achieving this classification. The monumental building from the 15th century, in the heart of Groningen, offers a unique atmosphere that enchants visitors time and again.
Hotel director Johannes Jacobs reacted with delight: "This recognition is an affirmation of the commitment to the high standards and hospitality we have strived for over 12 years. The entire team has contributed to this and these five stars are a reflection of their passion and professionalism. We are proud to be the first hotel in Groningen to carry this rating and look forward to continuing to surprise and inspire our guests with an unforgettable experience."
Hotel Prinsenhof, situated in the shadow of the well-known Martinitoren, is more than a hotel; it is a destination in itself. With 34 luxury rooms and suites, two restaurant concepts; Brasserie Prinsenhof and fine dining restaurant Nassau with mentions in the Michelin, Gault&Millau and Lekker guides, the nearby centuries-old Prinsentuin, and various (meeting) facilities for groups, the hotel offers a versatile experience for travellers and passers-by alike.
Achieving the five-star rating marks a new chapter in Prinsenhof Groningen's rich history. As the first five-star hotel in the province, it contributes to the further development of luxury and hospitality in the north of the Netherlands. For guests, this means a guaranteed high level of service and an experience in line with the highest international standards.
